Here the parallel shaft portion of the gearbox has been essentially shunted or nulled. Changing the configuration of the sets of small and large gears produces different gear ratios. The configuration can do step up, step down, and pass through. This allows the drive motor to run with less power draw and runs a little cooler, the gear make less noise as well.

Reducing the drivetrain resistance allows the retrofit system to function properly. This also converts the system to direct drive, having essentially removed the gearbox from the system without actually pulling unit.
